How would it feel to join a group of people you didn’t know, step into new experiences, and try things you never imagined yourself doing?
That’s exactly what happened to me. My name is Sujan, and I’m a trial member of JCI Kuopio. I first came across JCI at the end of 2024, when I attended the Global Talent Day. There I met a JCI member who told me about JCI Kuopio, and I immediately felt curious. The idea of learning, networking, and doing meaningful projects sounded exciting, so I decided to join.
Since then, my journey as a trial member has been full of eye-opening experiences. I’ve taken part in several company visits like Alko Kuopio, OmaSP Bank, Rocsole and there are still more lined up. It has been inspiring to see how different organizations operate and to meet the people behind them. I also had the chance to be part of organizing the Global Talent Day. My role was to work on a brochure and try to find sponsors. Even though I didn’t succeed in getting sponsors, I learned a lot about sales, communication, and most importantly, how to approach (and not to approach) people. Listening to the speakers at the event was another highlight. I left with new ideas and motivation.
It hasn’t all been work, though. Together with fellow members, we’ve enjoyed hiking trips to Orinoro Gorge and Korkeakoski, and even had a wine-tasting evening here in Kuopio or boardgame nights with JCI members. These moments have helped me connect with people in a more relaxed way and build friendships.
One of the most memorable moments so far was meeting the mayor of Kuopio and other city representatives. It gave me a glimpse of how JCI works closely with the local community and how we, as young active citizens, can play a role in shaping the future of our city.
Looking back, I realize how much I’ve already learned in such a short time, about business, teamwork, and myself. And this is just the beginning of my JCI journey!
